On June 2, the unveiling ceremony for the Low-Carbon & Intelligent Metallurgy Division of Design & Research Institute Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as DRI),USTB was held at the Changping Innovation Park of USTB. Zhu Rong, Member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and Director of the National Key Laboratory of Green Low-Carbon Iron and Steel Metallurgy at USTB; He Anrui, Party Secretary of IET, Chairman of DRI; and Guo Qiang, General Manager of DRI attended the event. Zhang Yongjun, President of IET and Vice Chairman of DRI, presided over the ceremony.

He Anrui extended a warm welcome to all attendees. He stated that the establishment of the Low-Carbon & Intelligent Metallurgy Division marks a pivotal strategic move by DRI to respond to the national "Dual Carbon" strategy and advance the green, low-carbon and intelligent transformation of the iron and steel industry. Moving forward, the company will deeply integrate USTB’s scientific research resources and talent pool, concentrate efforts on technological breakthroughs and engineering transformation for low-carbon metallurgy and intelligent smelting, build an industry-leading technical service platform, and drive high-quality development of the iron and steel sector through innovation.

Zhu Rong pointed out that the green and low-carbon transformation of the iron and steel industry constitutes a core task for implementing the national "Dual Carbon" strategy and advancing high-quality manufacturing development. The launch of the new division comes at an opportune time and carries far-reaching significance. He urged the division to closely align with industry development demands, continuously strengthen core technological innovation and engineering application translation, and strive to build a world-class innovation hub for low-carbon metallurgy technologies and a comprehensive industrial service platform, delivering robust technical support and systematic solutions for the low-carbon and intelligent upgrading of China’s iron and steel industry.

Zhang Yongjun systematically introduced the development overview, core business layout and distinctive strengths of IET and DRI. He elaborated on R&D of key generic technologies for iron, steel and non-ferrous metals, project delivery, and industry-university-research collaboration, highlighted multiple landmark cases of fruitful commercialization of scientific research achievements, and summarized practical experience in industrializing and scaling technologies relying on university research resources, laying a solid foundation for the division’s subsequent collaborative growth and technology implementation.

Feng Chao, Director of the Low-Carbon & Intelligent Metallurgy Division, outlined the division’s core business scope and elaborated on its core technical strengths and development plans covering low-carbon metallurgy technologies, intelligent smelting equipment, and green metallurgical engineering.

Zhu Rong and He Anrui jointly unveiled the plaque for the Low-Carbon & Intelligent Metallurgy Division, marking its official inauguration.

Subsequently, all participants held in-depth exchanges and discussions covering the division’s technology R&D, business expansion, industry-university-research cooperation and achievement commercialization, clarifying its future development roadmap.

The launch of the Low-Carbon & Intelligent Metallurgy Division will further expand DRI’s influence in low-carbon and intelligent iron and steel metallurgy, foster a more competitive system for technological innovation and industrial services, empower the green, low-carbon, intelligent and efficient development of China’s iron and steel industry, and support USTB’s "Double First-Class" Initiative construction.
