Huawei Iron & Steel Non-Ferrous Metal Corps Visits IET,USTB to Deepen "AI + Iron & Steel domain" University-Enterprise Collaboration and Jointly Advance Intelligent & Low-Carbon Transformation of the Metallurgical Industry

On July 3, Shi Mao, President ofHuawei’s Iron & Steel Non-Ferrous Metal Corps, led a team to visit the Institute of Engineering Technology of USTB (IET,USTB). He Anrui, Party Secretary of IET,USTB and Chairman of DRI; Shao Jian, Vice President of IET and Executive Deputy General Manager of DRI; Jing Fengwei and Li Xiaozhan, Deputy General Managers of DRI; and Song Yong, Chief Technical Specialist of DRI attended the forum, which was hosted by Shao Jian.

He Anrui extended a warm welcome to the Huawei delegation. He noted that IET and DRI boast full-chain innovation capabilities covering material R&D, process equipment, intelligent inspection, precision control and intelligent manufacturing, while Huawei holds underlying digital strengths in cloud computing, artificial intelligence and industrial internet. The two parties feature highly complementary advantages. Against the backdrop of urgent demand for intelligent and green low-carbon transformation across the iron and steel industry, he expressed anticipation for deepened collaborative layout of "AI + Iron & Steel", unblocking the full chain of R&D, implementation and promotion, co-building benchmark intelligent metallurgy projects, and advancing high-quality development of the metallurgical industry via digital and intelligent technologies.

Shi Mao thanked IET and DRI for their long-term cooperation and support. He stated that the two sides have previously delivered joint projects at multiple steel enterprises, proving that integrating metallurgical processes, control systems with Huawei Cloud, industrial large models and computing power infrastructure can resolve industry-wide challenges of quality improvement, cost reduction and efficiency gains. He hoped that this forum would refine cooperation mechanisms, further deepen cross-industry collaborative innovation, jointly build more industry benchmarks, and empower high-quality development of the iron and steel and non-ferrous metal sectors via digital intelligence technologies.

Shao Jian delivered a special presentation covering the core business scope ofIET; Yang Dewu, Director of the Solution Development and Integration Verification Department of Huawei’s Iron & Steel Non-Ferrous Metal Corps, presented on Huawei’s industrial digital products, metallurgical industry solutions and implementation pathways for bilateral cooperation.

Subsequently, the two sides held in-depth discussions on key topics including industrial AI implementation in metallurgy, digital twin factory construction, smart logistics system development, low-carbon management platform R&D, co-development of integrated industry solutions, and joint market channel expansion.

Building on existing cooperation foundations, this forum further aligned development consensus and clarified pathways for cooperative implementation, laying a solid groundwork for establishing a long-term in-depth strategic partnership. Moving forward, the two parties will establish regular communication and coordination mechanisms, continuously deepen integrated industry-university-research-user collaborative innovation, and accelerate the intelligent and green transformation of the iron, steel and non-ferrous metal industries via artificial intelligence, digital technologies and intelligent solutions.

Business leaders from Huawei’s Iron & Steel Non-Ferrous Metal Corps and Beijing Government & Enterprise Business, alongside department heads and technical backbones of DRI, participated in the meeting.
