In 2009, the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) approved USTB to establish the National Engineering Research Center of Flat Rolling Equipment (hereinafter referred to as “NERCFRE”). USTB established a special department to be responsible for the construction and development of NERCFRE, which passed the MOST certification in 2012 (rated as “excellent”), and passed the MOST evaluation in 2016. NERCFRE focuses on green technology for flat rolling and intelligentization of flat rolling equipment. It is devoted to the R&D and engineering application of green equipment, intelligent equipment, intelligent monitoring and intelligent control in the metallurgical industry, providing impetus for the development of “Made in China 2025”.
